Turkey’s atrocities against Kurdish people in southern Kurdistan

  Rozh Pavilov

Through out the history all Turkish governments have announced that “Turkey is one nation, it has one language that’s Turkish and it only belongs to Turkish people”.

This racist statement that has been announced by every Turkish king, president and prime ministers from Ottoman Empire to the current Turkish government clearly states that other minorities in turkey do not have any rights unless they change their nationality to Turkish!

In turkey no Kurds neither Armenian nor any other nationalities are allowed to study in their language or to hold a passport of their own nationality. In fact it was crime to speak in Kurdish until the end of 1980s and start of 1990s in government’s offices.

Turkish governments have been racist and it has fascistic elements in its roots. Its racist policies lead the Turkish government to commit one of the greatest genocide crimes in human history against the Armenians (Armenian Genocide) during the First World War in 1915. This was under the government of Committee of Union and Progress, Carried out by Turkish soldiers and policemen who enthusiastically carried out governments orders to wipe out a race of Christian people in Middle East, same as what the German Nazis did two decades later in Europe against Jewish people.

South east Turkey that is north Kurdistan is the land for approximately twenty five million Kurds, The word Kurdistan is never mentioned in the right wing capitalist media.  Not surprising as the capitalist media never have and will back oppressed people in the world.

Kurds are the second biggest nationality in Turkey but through out history they have been oppressed by the racist state in Turkey for centuries due to their nationality.

In the mid 70’s PKK (Kurdistan workers party) was formed, they are the party that demanded an independent socialist Kurdistan. They were and still are popular among the Kurds not just in Turkey but in the other three parts of Kurdistan in Iran, Iraq and Syria.

Turkey has always been backed by the imperialist forces in the west such as America and European Union. Turkey has destroyed thousands of Kurdish villages and has constantly carried out atrocities against the Kurdish civilians.

PKK in this scene became very popular, they gained support from millions of Kurdish people and still has that support as it was and still is the only party in the region to defend the people,  but this doesn’t mean that they will lead Kurdish people toward an  independent socialist state!

The group started its guerrilla campaign from 1983 up until now, to defend Kurdish people from Turkish atrocities and to defend themselves, as their members were jailed, tortured and executed by the Turkish racist government.

Since then PKK is known as a terrorist organization by America and European Union, Gordon Brown in a recent speech called them terrorist two, but PKK haven’t destroyed life of thousands of people, they haven’t jailed and executed civilians, and they haven’t destroyed thousands of Turkish villages, how can they be a terrorist? But Oppressed people have always been terrorists in the eye of capitalism.

Kurdish people have the right to take up arm and defend themselves from Tukish atrocities PKK is not a terrorist organization; they are carrying out an armed struggle to defend the people against an armed occupation.

In October this year the Turkish parliament gave authority to its army to invade southern Kurdistan which is in north Iraq. The excuse is that this is not an invasion there are PKK bases in the Kurdish region in Iraq and they have to be destroyed, because turkey has to destroy terrorism.

This is nonsense, Turkey is the second biggest military force in the NATO, and has been at war with PKK for over twenty five Years, they haven’t destroyed PKK since, and how can they destroy them now!?  It’s an invasion and it has to be stopped, and The Kurdish government in northern Iraq has no answers for the Kurdish people who are the victim of their nationalistic capitalist politics.

On 16th December the Turkish army bombed the Kurdish villages of (Qalatookan, Koortak, Bewle, Maradoo, Lewzha, Bra De and Razga) around Qandil Mountains, that’s in the Kurdish region in north Iraq.

The attacks were carried out by Turkey’s fifty war planes in the middle of the night, and they were accompanied by heavy artillery in the morning. One woman was killed and four people were injured.

Hundreds of people have left their homes, they have headed toward some other villages and cities, and those who can’t afford to go to the cities have fled and took shelter in the mountains and the mountains are covered by heavy snow.

United states have admitted that they had knowledge of the attack and Turkish officials announced that they are sharing intelligence on the attack with United States. Iraqi air space was opened for the Turkish planes by United States as they are in charge of the Iraqi air space.

On 17th December the army again bombed 15 Kurdish villages in the Iraqi territory, four Civilians were dead and four were injured.

Turkish officials are announcing that they are targeting PKK bases but they are carrying out atrocities against Kurdish civilians in north Iraq.

Again On 22nd December the Turkish war planes bombed the villages around Zakho town. The people have left the villages before the bombardment so there weren’t any casualties but the villages are destroyed, again on 23rd December the Turkish army bombed the villages of Nerwa, Rekan, Neheland, and towns of Shwladze and Dermalike.

Now it has been a week the Turkish army constantly bombing the Kurdish towns and villages in Kurdistan.

What is most shocking is that the fat cats in the Kurdish government in Iraq are silent about these crimes, but actually it shouldn’t be as they are agents of imperialism, and they are only busy filling up their pockets in the government.

PUK (patriotic union of Kurdistan) and PDK (Democratic Party of Kurdistan) are imperialist agents that mean they will agree with whatever decision America and other imperialist forces will make in the region. If that’s an occupation of southern Kurdistan in north Iraq by Turkey or even if it’s genocide the Kurds.

They are capitalist nationalist parties and their leaders have blood of thousands of Kurdish people on their hands by their civil wars that they created in middle of 1990s. They are criminals what shall the people expect from them.

In Kurdistan as a whole there is a lack of a real political alternative therefore there is no voice to oppose the crimes that the invaders from outside and the nationalists inside Kurdistan are committing against theses oppressed people.

Kurdish people are victim of the politics of imperialism, politics of the racist states of Iraq, Iran, turkey and Syria. They are also victim of the dirty politics of Kurdish nationalism that has blind folded Kurdish people for decades and decades.

Unless there is a real political alternative to imperialism and nationalism, Kurdish state is a dream and peace is impossible in Kurdistan and wider Middle East.
